Local music sensation Ice Project will be providing the opening entertainment at this year’s PRISM Awards, which take place on Sunday 25 March at the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg Hotel in Rosebank.

Ice Project’s debut album The Boy in the Photo is due for release on 2 April 2012. The album was recorded and produced by legendary South African producer Theo Crous. Crous has previously produced albums by The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Chris Chameleon and many other top South African artists. "I really had fun working with these guys and found them to be hugely talented songwriters,” says Crous. “What really stood out for me was the unique sound of Cobus' voice .... I see great things happening for this band in the future."

Currently Pretoria-based, Ice Project is a soft rock/post grunge band that started in Potchefstroom. At first the band was known for its acoustic sounds, but now is seen as a full four-piece band, that draws its influence from a wide variety of bands such as Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and many more.

Besides sharing the stage with well-known bands such as The Parlotones, Ice Project has received airplay on Jakaranda FM and their song "Rollercoaster" was included in top 5 local acts on the MK channel's show "Studio 1" for more than six weeks.
In January 2010 Ice Project was signed to Sovereign Records and is currently preparing for their first full-length album.

The four-piece band consists of guitarist Heinrich Pelser, who is a guitar teacher by profession and has an objective passion for all kinds of music; drummer, Theunis de Bruyn who juggles backing vocals, hooking up the pad sounds and even playing acoustic guitar all whilst beating the kit; Louis Potgieter on bass and keys, experimenting with synthetic sounds and stealing the show by constantly swapping bass and keyboard within songs; and finally singer/song writer Cobus Bester who lends his signature vocals, lyrics and melodies to the collaborative concept that is The Ice Project.
