Media analysis is an increasingly crucial component of any communicator and brand focussed professional. Given the constant shift from print to digital, it is also an ever evolving and potentially overwhelming task to take on. Every media type is different and so too every company’s required outcomes and strategies. Fortunately, the daunting nature of analysis can be made very easy and fun.
This interactive workshop will give you the tools to understand the principles of analysis and enable you to measure media efficiently and strategically. Also, some great debates are expected where everyone will certainly be able to learn from each other.

Jaco Pienaar has an MA Information Science specialising in Intellectual Capital Measurement and has grown up academically and professionally in the research and media space. His past experience includes freelance writing for numerous high profile technology and entertainment publications, including ITWeb, research in the executive search context for a multi-national natural resources recruitment company, and analytics in the media monitoring and measurement industry.
He is also involved in the music industry as a drummer, with over ten years of performing experience, which includes broadcasted interviews and live performances. His entertainment writing has also flowed from this, with numerous album and event reviews under his belt. He is currently busy with his research for his PhD in Intellectual Capital Measurement, focusing on the links between Intellectual Capital, brand, behaviour and media. His Intellectual Capital approach in media measurement has been internationally published in the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management (http://www.worldscientific.com/doi/abs/10.1142/S0219649212500293?journalCode=jikm).
Jaco is the Chief Knowledge Officer for PEAR, one of the largest media tracking, measurement and analysis companies in South Africa, which gives him the ability to harness all his experience and knowledge to drive methodologies and knowledge capabilities in this highly innovative environment. He is constantly researching and developing creative, academically and practically sound frameworks to better measure media and brand.
